Hey guys! Just a quick question. I currently ride burton feather 152. I'm wanting to get into freestyle soon and have my eyes on next seasons capita danger pony freestyle board. I'm just wondering what size to go for. I've always felt that the 152 is a little too big for me...I can ride it fine, I'm 5'6 and I think it's ok for my height but I weigh about 8.5 stone and find it hard to get my weight over the board when trying to do things like tail presses (that and it's not a very flexible board).
So the question is, would a 146 in freestyle board be ok for me?
That's 120 lbs according to Google. The Feather is only slightly large at your weight and everywhere I looked indicated it had a soft flex. I'm not saying you shouldn't get a new board, but a new board probably won't fix your pressing difficulties.
At your weigh 152 is good for freeride, 150 for do everything board, and 148 for a job and small jump focused board.
Going short will cost you stability at speed, powder floatation, and stability on medium sized jumps or larger.
I assume as you're in the uk you'll be doing freestyle at a dome or dryslope, most people tend to size down for riding indoors, the 146 would be fine I know people who'd go shorter than that.
I like my feather and I'll be keeping it to take to the mountain with me next season, but for the purpose of freestyle (yep indoor slope as I'm UK) I just wanted a smaller, lighter and flexier (that's now a word) board to play on.
So I should be cool with a 146 then, mostly just for riding indoor park
My girlfriend is 5'6" also, about the same weight and her park board is a 146, 151 powder. She used to use a 149 for park but is much more satisfied with the 146..
I've never ridden dome or dry slope, but I'd imagine that 146 would work fine for that. If demoing is an option, I'd recommend taking advantage because if you size down too much you can lose too much stability and therefore lose confidence.
Birds of a Feather also comes in more sizes if it turns out you want to go 148.
You could go smaller to if you wanted.
What's the chances you're gonna get a 2 foot dump?
Pretty slim I'm thinking?
You're on the right track though.
52 is about the right size for real mtns @ a buck 20.
Some people would like you to believe it's too big.
In this forum for some reason, everyone rides little dinky boards.
But for indoor shit, that's pretty specific.
You don't need length at all.
Or stability at speed, I don't think? How fast can you get going indoors? Hahaha I'm sure you'll be fine.
actually that board is the Jess Kimura Pro model. the sizes are 138, 142, 146, and 150. here's capita's catalog for next season Capita - zuzupopo / Catalogues - zuzupopo

Save those pennies and come to the beautiful Pacific NW!! We have Whistler, Mt Baker, Mt Bachelor and Hood Meadows. Those are just the big name places too! Bring a full sized board though

That's the dream! It'll be France next year but hopefully Canada the year after.
