So who has some fam tree boards?

I had the Flight Attendant which on paper seemed perfect for me but was a bit stiffer than I'd like. I have heard the FA Fam Tree was all over the place with stiffness.

Currently have the CAXX and dig it. Super fun and carvy and does well in powder for a little guy.

Also have the Skip Jack Japan and I love that damn board and will never get rid of it. Great in pow, so fun to carve on groomers and really nice pop for a short tail.

Have me eye on the Skeleton Key (as does everyone else) in the 158.

Nice

At the end of the year last season the hype on that deck was volcanic.

I imagine anyone buying one, especially the ones sprinkled with fairy dust from craig's, will allow the buyer to instantly step into an AK spot in the next brain farm film.....

Jokes aside, going to be be nice to hear some feedback on guys who've spent some time on it...

No Family Tree board, but I do have Family Tree backpack. Loving it. :giggle:

Been looking at Family Tree boards for a while because I really liked the colour scheme (Cloud Splitter... *drool*), but never pulled the trigger and now the designs seem to be moving away from what I like.

Yeah agree. The older FT boards looked awesome. Simple. Beauty design. Cheetah, Cloud Splitter, etc. They seem to be going in a different direction now.

I do like my '16 LL graphic, much more than the 17's.
Also last yr's Fish... holy crap that was insane. Better than this yr's cartoon Phish.....

I have the first gen flight attendant and I love it. I didn't think it was too stiff. Sidecountry fun by Ves, on Flickr

Here's my other family tree custom baby

This by far is my favorite pow stick. The swallow and the camber combination is stellar.

You guys got any further insight into the CAXX? I am currently riding the 159 FA and i'm 150lbs. Wondering what it would be like to ride CAXX or something equivalent, mostly pow and trees. You get bored with it when you transition back to groomers? Is it an all day board, or you switch out if conditions change?

Having never ridden the CAXX or the FA, but having ridden dozens of boards over my years of riding, here is my best guesstimate...

CAXX is shorter, wider, and more directional than the FA (more taper and shorter tail). You can expect it to be less stable and more nimble in pow. The FA is supposed to be phenomenal for carving groomers. I hear that the CAXX is pretty good, but I wouldn't expect it to compare to the FA on groomers.

Basically the FA is more versatile, but the CAXX will out shine it in tight trees. Both will float well at your weight, but the CAXX with its shorter length and shorter tail will be easier to throw around at the cost of feeling less stable. If you want a board that will rock powder trees, the CAXX is hard to beat.

Reallly fun in the pow trees b/c it turns so well and the shortness is nice for navigating tight spaces. I am 6'2'' 180 and the board feels fine to me size wise in the pow. Floated me fine in a foot of new stuff. On groomers it is a good time also. The tighter side cuts lends itself more to having fun turning than ripping down the mountain. It is decently damp in chunder, obviously stiff and short tail so not a ton of pop out of it. Stiff all the way through. One complaint would be on real hardpack conditions it washes out a bit, but what board doesn't? It is a do it all board for me. I can have fun on it on a groomer day. Only thing is, as with most Burton channel boards in my experience, on groomers I ride the board forward or ref by about an inch or inch and 1/2 whereas in Pow I ride on ref or a bit behind.

For as much as I like the CAXX, I f'ing love the Skipjack. I think it does everything the CAXX does, just better. It has a little looser sidecut too, so you can bomb on it a bit more. Little softer and more poppy.

Has anyone tried a Gatekeeper yet? I'm looking to replace a 161 Neversummer Cobra and want something more aggressive. I'm torn between the FA and the Gatekeeper. I'm concerned about the GK being too stiff as form the looks of things it is the stiffest board in the lineup. I'm a solid intermediate rider and 5'10 220lbs. I'm looking for something that will excel at resorts like Revelstoke so powder or steeper hard pack runs. I found the Cobra wasn't stiff enough in Revelstoke last year.

Closest to a Cobra has to be the Landlord. Pretty much the same exceptional agility, but the LL is really really stable under feet. The flex pattern is slightly different... Cobra is a bit softer overall and has more of a damp flex. LL has a very poppy flex and feels a bit firmer. Not much stiffer...

Havent tried the LL in powder, but it must be better than the Cobra, because that was so-so in pow. Only thing with LL is that it is very directional. So it definitely has that freeride feel to it.

Rode the Gk last year at Rmr. I found it was a Rad board for someone looking for a stable ride that floats well and drops cliffs like a dream and absorbs chatter really well. Prob one of Burton's damper rides. I say it would be close to a Jones flagship if I had to compare it to something. Do it if you are looking for a Revy stick.

Haven't seen the SK up for sale anywhere yet...prob b/c a late release but I will look daily haha. Interested to see what the WW is on the 158, hopefully closer to 26.

Anway, this was the FT quiver at one point.

Guess the fish kinda counts too...

The local shop I go to, one of the owners who I've become buddies with was telling me that the Skeleton Key they're getting already got bought before the actual release date. I guess someone's been waiting for it and snatched it the moment it got confirmed. Think they only got 1, 2 max. It's a limited release no?

And the Backyard Special of the Brushie deck, all of them are already sold out before it's even hit their store. Nuts loll.
