Snowing day board choice, Capita, K2, Burton ?

Hello

I'd like to buy a second board that will be dedicated to snowing days on resorts and pure backcountry hike and ride days.

I'm an average/good rider, like riding switch, and want something agile and playful to quick turn through trees (rather than something to charge/speed/jump).
Not a difficult/physical board.

I've listed a few often recommanded boards and eliminated a few others.

Still in competiton: (lengh, waist)
- Capita Charlie Slasher 158/256 or 161/258
- K2 Ultra Dream 158w/263
- Burton Flight Attendant 159W/260

Eliminated:
- Salomon sick stick, 163/256 // I think it's too long for me, yet the only with correct waise size...

Which one would you recommand and in which size ? You can of course recommand smthg not in my list.

Cheers

Me:
Tall : 1.85m = 6 foot
Weight : 75 kilos = 165,3 pounds
Boot size : 44 euro = 11 US - I have Burton Ion boots
Angles : +16 -9

The YES 20/20 comes to mind to check out also. Wouldn't be much of a groomer board, but would be a twin "short and fat" board with lots of float due to the powder hull.

Never ridden it though, so this is just speculation. Carry on

I've been riding the Ultra Dream for a couple of years but not had a huge amount of powder on it. However, I can vouch for it being very easy to use on snowy days, I've survived almost certain wipeouts on and off piste. It's fast too and surprisingly good at carving. I'm only 170cm and 72kg but use the 161 which doesn't feel big, I have quite a wide stance.

Thanks all for the answers :)

I've clearly identified my intent/use, now I have to find the right board , which is why I'm here ^^

According to what I can read from Poopresearch and BoardieK, the K2 UltraDream could match.
Three sizes are relevant for me (boot 11) are 161/253, 164cm/255mm, 159W/263
I think 161/253 is too narrow and between the 164 ans 159w, the 159 will be more playful. Am I right on this one?

Otherwise as this board will be my second, I should take something more powder "radical" such as Yes 420, YES 20/20, or Salomon Derby.

You list several good but very different boards.

The FA is essentially a slightly aggressive cambered board with a big powder nose and a touch of taper. Very popular board with the Burton team and one that will be great on groomers or powder. Apparently does pretty well switch too for a tapered board.

K2 UD is essentially a rockered directional twin with a giant nose and tail. Although it's stiff, it's probably a lot more playful than the FA. It's not tapered so I would expect it to ride well switch and apparently it carves decently, but I wouldn't expect it to rail carves on firm snow the way the FA can. You may want to consider going longer than 158 because the nose and tail are huge. Others with first hand experience can probably comment.

The CS is the only board on your list that's a dedicated powder board. It has flat camber with a giant rockered nose and a ton of taper. It will have the most float in pow, but perform the worst outside the powder or on ice. Not a bad board, just more specialized than the other two.

In short, the FA is a powder capable all mountain board. Think freeride board that is more forgiving, fun, and versatile, but can still handle pro level shredding.

The UD is a powder capable all mountain freestyle board. It will be happy riding switch, hitting side hits, doing non-tech park laps, etc.

The CS is a powder board meant to have amazing float, but not ideal for the rest of the mountain.

Choose your adventure.

When it comes to pow decks you really need to evaluate how often your actually riding switch in deep snow.

If genuinely a fair amount look at the 16 and older Trick Pony, upsize an Arbor Westmark Rocker, Amplid Pillow Talk, or a Nitro Uberspoon.

Now if you're current board is good enough in deep snow when you wanna get spinny and you want substring for the deep days, Lago Open Road 156, Salomon Sick stick 156, Burton Mod Fish 156 or Branch Manager, Arbor Shreddy or Cosa, or a Yes 420.

If you want an all mountain deck that's floats great with some freestyle capability, Niche Story 158, Ride Berserker, Flow Solitude, Jones Mt Twin, K2 Turbo Dream, Arbor Coda or Iguchi both rocker, or a Yes PYL.

If you want something to truly blast on, Flow Maverick, Jones Flagship, Burton FA, Arbor Iguchi Camber.

If the short fat thing interests you, K2 Party Platter, Ride WarPig, Salomon Derby Snake, and the United shapes stuff is good.

Hii

Thanks for the inputs :)

I'm now hesitating between the Salomon Derby (also known as Powder Snake or Pillow Talk) and the K2 Ultra Dream.

As this powder board will be my 2nd board in addition to a Jones MountainTwin, I think I'll go with the more powder specialized : Salomon Derby :)

This short fat stick scares me a bit, but it has a strong powder reputation so I'll give it a try!

Decision made, thanks !!

Derby is a pretty good choice.

Note that it is not the same as the Powder Snake. Salomon naming has been a bit inconsistent between seasons, but the Powder Snake (now discontinued) was basically the budget version of the Sick Stick, while the Derby is Salomon's stubby pow stick.

BTW the shorter Derby is not particularly fat - not even close to a 420 or Fish, say.

I had hesitation with the SickStick, but the only waist width that's wide enough (255mm) comes in 164cm which is too long to keep the playfulness I need.

So I think the Derby is what I need.
It exists only in two size : 147 and 151.
Accodring to my weight (165lbs) I'll get the shorter one.
I hope it will stand my height (1.85m = 6 foot) and boot size (11)... ^^

Sick Stick is an amazing board. You would have been ok with the 160 and in powder length/effective edge has much less influence on how playful a board is.
But the Derby is fine choice and probably better for you.

I figured you went for the short Derby - hence, my comment. You should be fine with that unless you regularly go into the really deep stuff.

I've only ridden Charlie outa those.
But I do have a sick stick I picked up.
Sold it to a buddy , but I can ride it whenever I want.

Charlie wouldn't be my pick for sure.

I have had a Powder Snake, that's, I think just a noodle-E-er version of the sick stick?
For riding switch in the powder though, that extra length is definitely gonna be your friend. That and i don't think it has taper?

That should easily sway you towards the sick stick, I would think?

I have no idea about the other 2 decks mentioned.

TT

I don't think that 163 is big either especially on the sick stick.

Hadn't finished reading the thread when I posted.
The Derby's just got a chopped tail doesn't it?

Gotta be if you're a buck ciddy five?
And you're picking up a 147?
How you gonna ride switch on that?

Let us know how it works out I'm curious.

Hello again

I'm having a very good oppotunity to get a K2 TurboDream for quite a cheap price...

What size would you take if you were me?
157w / 263 waist -> too wide ?
161 / 253 waist -> too narrow?

Will I feel the slow edge-to-edge with the 263mm waist?
Will I feel toe/heel drag in powder with the 252mm waist?

Remember it's for pure powder usage (not always deep though)

ME:
Tall : 1.85m = 6 foot
Weight : 75 kilos = 165,3 pounds
Boot size : 44 euro = 11 US - I have Burton Ion boots
Angles : +16 -9

Thanksssss>:)
