Default Should I get a new board or does it matter?

Hi Guys- I'm getting back into snowboarding after about 8 years away. I was really into it from 92 to about 97, even working at my local mountain for a season. Since then I've gone sporadically and actually haven't been for about 6 years until this season. Here's my question: I still have the board I had from the first season I was riding. I believe it's a 92 model Mike Ranquet Lamar- it's the board with the pool table on the top and the Heineken style logo on the bottom. This board is 17 years old! It's actually in great shape still- probably because it really only got used that one season. I have had several boards since but sold them. The Lamar is the right size for me and it's a modern twin tip style, but I wonder, has board technology improved drastically since 92? Would I be better off buying something newer? I don't mind spending the money but I don't want to if it doesn't matter. Also, I don't expect to go more than 5 or 6 times a season so it's not like I need some super board. I was at an outdoor store today and saw an o7 Burton Royale that looked awesome for about 200 bucks. Is it worth the upgrade? I should also note, I can't give feedback on how the Lamar feels just yet because I've been borrowing my friends 99 Liquid Mountain this season but now he wants it back.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the advice!

If your gonna go 5-6 times I suggest buying a used board. Check ebay and craigslist. You can pick up one that is alot better than the one you have for $100. I bought a Eddie Wall Forum Destroyer, 32 Timbas and Burton Mission Bindings for like $275. Just My .02

If money is not a problem buy a new board and try and go 8-10 times a year!

If you only go a few times a year then get a cheap set up. You can get everything you need a year or two old for half of what you will spend on a new stick. ..

honestly, the technology in snowboards has evolved soo much in the last ten years or so to the point where a new board is probably a good idea. check craigslist and ebay for a decent used board. ive bought a couple used boards that ive been very impressed with and i think you can do the same. if you dont want to ride a newer board and youd rather stay with the one you learned on, go for it, but boards these days are getting so high performance that its almost night and day difference from one board to another.

Also look into closeout gear that's a year or two old, I got a nice K2 in my size for 150, retailed for over 300.

what everyone else says. the tech has improved so much - even in the last 5-6 years that it's not even funny. Check closeout deals, Sierra just blew out their stock of 09 and prior for 70% off (how about a Burton X8 for $179!!!) and other sites will be having deals like that if they're not already. craigslist is hit or miss, but there are decent boards on e-bay, many with bindings, that you can get for pretty reasonable price.

You too? Awesome. That board is sexy as f*ck. I wish they had had the 160cm in stock, I got the 157 and it's kinda small for me, but maybe I just need to get used to it because I've been riding a NS Legacy 163 for the last 4 or 5 years.
