Question for the Terrain Park Rats
Hey all,
I’ve been riding since the early 90’s. This year I decided to get a freestyle specific board to compliment my “all-mountain” deck. I have been using the “all-mountain” board in the park for a while, but decided to spend more time there this year. Hence, its time to drop some more money. So, a few questions. First, how much shorter should I go? I currently ride a 155 for my so-called “all mountain” board. I bought it a bit short (to keep some the freestyle element alive), as it comes up to my chin (I’m 5’10, 157lbs). I was debating going as low as the 151-153 range. But I wasn’t sure if that would *too* small. Second, I’ve narrowed my shopping list down to a few decks. Any feedback on these would be great. Thanks in advance. Atomic: Axom 153/156 Burton: Blunt / Dom (Blunt: 151/155, Dom: 154) Forum: Youngblood (152/154) Never Summer: System (151/155) Nitro: T1 (153) Ride*: Kink (152/155) *I’m not a big fan of the Ride company. |
i just picked up a rome agent 152 for the park this year. i'm 5'8" 160 or so...i think you'd be good with a 52 or 53.
the forum youngblood is a great board. i've heard good things about the atomic alibi as well |
What are you looking to do in the park? Are you more Jumps/Kickers or jibs/rails? makes a difference in the board selection...

(don't read this. just adding it to meet the minimum character requirement) |
ok so how big are the jumps we're talking about?
|
I'd small / med size. I don't heal as fast as I did when I was 15. Hence, I avoid the really big stuff. Hurts too much when I go down.
|
i would look at the Never Summer...I am kind of parcial but i jib on a never summer and kickers and i love it!..dont go below a 51 if you ride a 55.

No to the kink, too soft if your hitting kickers of decent size. Look at the dh 155 or 151, atomic hatchet/alibi or the young blood.

I rode my new Rome Machine yesterday for the first time and it seemed to handle jumps pretty well. I didn't get to hit that many because the assholes tore 'em down. And I've heard it does pretty well for jibbing as well. It is a good all-around board. Check into it.
