help - Snowboarding Forum

ive been skateboarding for about two years....and cant get enough of the thrill of air.....its now winter though and theres too much snow to skate....so i decided to try snowboarding because its basically the same thing......

i need some help picking out a board and binding and everyting else....but im on a tight budget....got any brands to suggest?

I've been skating for 17 years, and riding almost as long. They look the same, but are quite different. Go to a local pro shop and they will be able to help you out.

I'm a 25 yr. old engineer w/ my own business, and during a discussion with an older couple last weekend on the slopes, they thought I was a 17yr. old kid, cuz of how I was dressed, and what I had strapped to my feet...haha, good times.

anyway, whats your weight/height? If you visit some websites like Dogfunk.com, and search for some boards, you'll see the differences between park boards, free ride (carving) boards, and multi-purpose boards. You'll also see a range of sizes and flex's that'll be good for you.

Just spend an hour or so poking around some websites.

Yeah, last year of law school. and I often get the same mistake on the lift when talking to older skiers (think I'm in high school). I assume the dogfunk comment was for the orgional poster? I've been on the mountain almost as long as I've been on the skateboard...it's been amusing to watch board evolve into specific-use decks over the years.

I'm 27 am exceptionally white collar for work and I also get the same responses on the mountain. People seriously think I'm like 16 because I snowboard and how I dress off the mountian! Shit is funny to me!

I've only been into boarding for the last two years, and non of my friends are into it (well, ex-gf is a skiier and her bro is a snowboarder, they got me into it), but I've done all my researc online and at my local shop.

I've never been a skater like most people on this forum tho... I like the idea of the board being strapped to my feet.. maybe i should try skate boarding this summer :P anyone ever tried a snow skate?

I liked the original reply(suggestion), that seems to have been deleted, better.

Try renting before you buy, especially if you're on a tight budget. It would be a shame to waste any money on something you wont enjoy after the first try.
