So I bought this board from a thrift store because I wanted a cheap used board to learn on. It looks like a decent board, not too banged up. Anyways, I have never heard of this brand! It is called New School Snowboard 142. I tried googling about it but couldn't find anything! Does anyone know anything about this brand and if it is good?!

I'm not an expert but what really matters is your bindings and boot size.
See the sticky on equipment buying guide.

Post a pic. Did someone call it "new" or does it say "new." Is the "E" in "new" clearly visible or could it be an "O?"

It's pretty apparent from the bindings (dafuq are those bear traps? they're like a hybrid baseless binding, so weird!) and the stomp pad that board has gotta be every bit of 20 years old. That stomp pad was on every board in the 90s.

(it's possible someone put old shit bindings & stomp pad on a new board, but seems unlikely)

As for the brand, no it's not something I've ever heard of. Can't tell on the bindings but I seem to recall that alu baseplates were very prone to bending/breaking back in that era, you'd be better served with new bindings (if they'll fit the old board -- some brands used different insert patterns or hardware size no longer compatible) and the plastic components on bindings are notorious for dry rot and otherwise just getting too brittle/old/cracked to use any more when they've been sitting for the better part of 2 decades.

TL;DR I hope you didn't pay too much for it. Like, not more than $25. Also, get new bindings (if possible).

I remember New School from the mid 90's. They were primarily a skate company, but they branched into snowboards for a while. They used to use an 8 ball logo as well. A few of my friends had the skate decks for a while. They were heavy without much pop and went dead quickly, but were built tough and hard to snap.

Simon Woodstock skated for them. Man, it's been a long time since I've though about that guy. He was a total nutter. Do any of you guys remember when Woodstock and Shaun Palmer were supposed to box, but Palmer bailed and Mike Muir from Suicidal Tendencies filled in instead?

Man, those were the days.
