Finally going to buy my own board as I'm sick of renting. I've been boarding for three years now. Our local hill is all groomed runs and not very big, but it's better than nothing and it's where I learned. Ive gone to the mountains every season since I started. Board will be used a lot on groomers but I also want something for powder/mountains(i don't spend time in the park but I like hitting jumps) i'm thinking an all mountain board. What I'm unsure about is the size. I'm 5'10 260lbs with a 9.5-10 boot size, currently my new boots are 9.5(32 Lashed Chris Bradshaw) .so if I follow any guide I'm buying a board that's 163-170. I've been riding 158-161/161w, just what I've asked for/whats available for rental. When I buy I'm thinking of 160/161, is that going to be fine? It's what I'm comfortable with but not what weight charts recommend. I also know as they get bigger they get wider which makes it harder as I have a smaller boot size. Also, how wide of a board Am I Looking For To Match My Boot Size.
Right now I'm looking at buying/ordering from sportchek. I only want something cheap to get me going until I decide to buy a more expensive board.
Any advice on what I should be looking for would be great.
Your weight vs boot size is going to be the biggest obstacle finding the perfect board for a low budget. With 9.5 boots you do not need a wide board, but since you ride at a small resort with out much vert you can get away with riding a smaller board.
Look for directional boards with some set back and rocker in the tips will help with riding in pow. Maybe take a look at the Ride Wildlife 164. No idea how it rides since I never rode one but im sure you can find reviews and R/F/R profiles are fun to ride. Evo has them for like $309 Ride Wild Life Snowboard 2016 | evo outlet
The biggest thing I'm running into is the width. What's too big. If I put my boots up to a 265mm waist the boots still have overhang, front and back. Most websites are saying 255-257mm range with my 9.5 boots. If they recommend the smaller width won't I have much more overhang? Reason I'm asking is at my sportchek here there's a couple options. Aside from a small board shop that doesn't have much selection this is what I get to choose from. I live in Canada and a lot of American sites won't ship to me.
K2 Ray gun 164w 268mm
Ride manic 164w 265mm
Ride wildlife 161 (would love the 164 but I can't find it online 15-17) this is also the board mentioned in the previous post but I can't seem to find a 164 in store or online in Canada.
And a couple other 161s
One nice thing is sportchek has a 60 day return, used or not, so I can't try it here and in the mountains before the 60days are up. I was thinking of just picking up the on sale 161 15/16 Wildlife for now if not unless one of the 164w would be a better option to try.
Oh I'm well aware, I'm always aiming to lose weight but definitely a good way to look at it.
