So I have a cryptic answer. If you already had a FA and was looking at the Ultra I would say get it. But if you have an Ultra and are looking at a FA... meh. Thats not to say the FA doesn't rip, it does. But the only thing I'd really ever grab a FA over an Ultra for is crud busting and high speed stability. But if you're satisfied with your Ultra in those areas, I would be, I don't see the point. Diversify a little more. Get a Warpig or Party Platter. Or a jibby deck.
If you're getting a stupid good deal that's different.
Sort of agree with this. Had the ultra and it was very stable and ripped groomers for a flat rocker design. I have an FA now but use it in a less versatile manner, ie. almost purely for freeriding and directional pow shredding. Another advantage is great pop off the tail which the ultra didn't have unless you were helped by a kicker or a bump. Edge hold is quite similar.
For a future japan trip I'd probably pick a 161 ultra again, since directional float is great, is easy to turn and can land and ride switch in pow. Also stiff enough to stomp big landings. Man, starting to miss mine talking about it :blahblah:
If you have proper ollie technique, the FA will reward you much more. The lack of easy pop was sort of the only drawback of the ultra dream, but if you like it for pop go for a more park oriented stick for seconds.
