Hm...never heard about it, but if it's true I want one! lol

It's new for this year...I'm surprised they haven't gotten back to you, they responded superquick to my inquiries which is what helped lead me to buying a Rome. When I get home tonight I'll try to find the direct email of the rep I was talking to about their products. If I find it I'll PM it to you.
as an FYI he seemed pretty stoked on it |
Sounds like I bought my new Rome board a little early, hehe.

Anyone have any new info about Smartbase in terms of not needing to wax, can/should you wax it anyway, and durability? I'm thinking about picking up the Rome Design but want to know if it'll be durable enough for the long term without waxing it.
I found an article about the technology and I think it was used on some skis before the Nitro and Rome snowboards. http://www.felix-engineering.de/deu/..._smartbase.pdf |

I already went ahead and purchased a ROME Design and from what I can tell it is HARDLY scratch resistant. I already got a knick or two from just moving it around (havent rode it yet). I am going to whistler in the morning and will be there for a week. I put a coat of wax on the board so I can wear it away all week and see how it performs at the end of the week. I'll let you all know how it goes. Later |
yeah it actually is pretty sweet. The only issues we have run into is when it comes to tuning (p-texing). since its not your regular p-tex base what do you fix it with? it does not hold p-tex for the life of it.
Honestly that is the only negative i have seen or heard of so far.. props for something different in my opinion. |

I think temporarily I will ONLY ride this stick on really good days of powder and just wax it to fill in the ridges, scratches, and valleys of the board. Until I find some smart base ptex.... |
