I'm just wondering to set my stance do I use the positive or negative measurement on the channel?

If you're talking about the board markings, there is a reference stance on each board, on each channel. Going up is wider than the ref. stance, down is narrower. Never set the front binding closer to the top than the back is to the rear. If you want a centered stance, put both bindings on the same mark (on the front and rear channels)
