Ride Machete LE 157w w/ Contrabands

Need to know if this setup will suit my purposes. I'm 5'11" 165-170lbs, size 11.5 boot. Wanting my own board for this year. Looking for kind of an all mountain twinish rocker. Went boarding for the first time back in March, got hooked and I'm wanting my own gear for this year. Most of my experience is on a Custom V-Rock 159 and custom bindings which were cool, just felt like a tad too much flex in the nose and tail and too loose when not on edge. Mainly wanting a board that I can take and explore where ever besides probably double black steeps and rails. If you have any time with either the board or bindings please post what you think. I can also get a regular Machete 161W for the same price if everyone thinks that would suit me better. Thanks guys.

No one has an opinion? Maybe I should have put NeverSummer in the title.

Pretty set on 2010 Machete, Contrabands & 32 Lashed boots as my setup next year. Thats a pretty all-mountain freestyle mid-flex setup right? Right?

Come at me bro..

I got contrabands last season and loved them. they are a pain to set-up ( I would watch a video on you tub it helped me alot with the set-up ) But once that is done I had nothing but fun on them from freeriding to park can't complain. sorry I can't tell you anything about the board

The Machete will suit your riding style perfectly. As for the contrabands, they are either hated or loved. I am on the hater side. I don't like my bindings to be that complicated. The biggest downfall of that is you have no flexibility. If you change boots, you have to painstakingly re-adjust those binders. If you have a friend that you might want to swap boards with for a few runs, you will have to swap bindings too. This is assuming that you guys can be accommodated by the same binding size though.

I personally feel that there are better bindings out there that perform as good or better than the contrabands. Ride Deltas are great with the Machete. Rome 390s are great with the Machete. Flow NXT-AT/SE or F/SE is great with the Machete. So many choices other than the painfully annoying to set up Contrabands.

Here's how hard they are to set up. I went to a test fest this year. The Ride Rep was trying to hook me up with Contrabands for the Machete I was about to demo. 20 minutes later, I told him to give up and give me the Deltas. THE RIDE REP COULDN'T EVEN SET IT UP! Just my two cents though.

Cool I appreciate the input. I don't have any riding budding that board. Just one that makes trips with me and he is a skier. But I hear ya on the setup time. From your experience what size board do you think I should pick up. I'm stuck in a wide but not sure if I should go 157 or 161.

I'm not sure about which sizes come in wide for the Machete, but out of those two the 157 is definitely the size you should go for. If there is a step down smaller wide Machete, then get that. I would put you in the 155-157W range.

Just for a frame of reference I'm 5'5" 145lbs and I ride a 155 Machete. The ride website put the 157W weight range as 150-220 so I guess that should be good for you and the 155 as 115-165.

All for $500 shipped...gotta love gear shopping in July. Gonna be a nice little all-mountain shred rig.
