Rome's Sales and Marketing Director Europe:
"To increase that lively, snappy feel when we pop off lips, slash walls of pow, spin onto a rail, or ollie ropes, we've innovated three new pop-enhancing technologies for 2011 on-snow fun: HotRods (ultralight Kevlar or Carbon tubes milled into the core), PressurePop Technology (energy transmitting plates built from Kevlar and/or basalt, that radiate from under the bindings to target points in nose and tail), and PowerBars (double layers of carbon or basalt that pre-form into a "V" cross section for maximum ollie/nollie pop)." Have they got NASA scientists working on board construction or something? Is this for real? Has anyone got an opinion on whether all this new technology innovation works or whether its all just a big marketing war between the big boys? |

A lot of it is marketing, but that does not necessarily mean that the technology isn't there. Put it this way, I could have a pencil with a special white eraser that would otherwise be normal in every other aspect. My white eraser causes much less smearing when you erase. I could market the hell out of my pencil by talking about how technologically advanced it is and much better to look at to boot. Am I lying? No. I am talking it way up though. Would be even better if I found out that NASA uses it in space. Imagine how much I could market my pencil then.
As for the stuff actually doing what it says? That's debatable. I mean, RIDE has this tech called poprods. They do in fact work because if you demo the DH2, you'll quickly realize how much better the pop in that board is than the competition. Then you have tech like Bamboo cores. Supposedly gives you a stronger, more evenly flexing board. Is the flex noticeable? I don't really know. If you blind folded me and had me flex on regular boards and bamboo boards, I wouldn't be able to tell you which is which. They are more durable that's for sure though. |

It works because it's the same shit as a hollow fishing rod made out of carbon fiber. You whip that sucker back to cast and it snaps right back. Is it over analyzed and made to sound more fancy than it is? Yes. Simple solution would have been "we put these fancy fucking hollow rods in our boards and when you load it up you go bang zoom straight to the moon"
