Wrong board delivered! Send back or keep?

Hello,

I ordered the 162w Ride DH2 but the delivery man just gave me the 164w Machete. I'm 195cm tall and weigh 80 kilos. This is supposed to be my all-mountain freestyle board. Is there a big difference between these two models (these particular sizes) or could I just keep the Machete and use it nearly the same way? I don't think the shop has the DH2 and I'm in a hurry cause I'm going on a snowboard trip in the alps this weekend.

EDIT: I already have a Ride Kink 156w for park riding ...

My mom paid on delivery and it was the regular machete price so thats no problem.

As far as my riding style is concerned, I need a board for doing medium jumps, riding powder and going at higher speeds with ski riding friends ...
Keeping the machete would really be the much easier solution since there wouldn't be enough time to exchange before the trip. Plus the shop renewed the stock information - they don't have the dh2 (just like every other shop in germany)

As it is 2cm longer, I figured it would be not that much softer than the dh2 and thus not too close to my park-only-board, the kink.

I'd be pissed, the DH2 is nicer than the Kink for sure. The Kink has more of a rocker and has less pop. Ride rates the DH2 as a 7/10 in stiffness but i've rode this years model and it's pretty flexible. You're kind of stuck though as it looks like Ride itself is sold out of the DH2..

The Machete is a softer board than the mid-stiff DH2. The Machete is pretty dead center of mid-flex spectrum. The size difference doesn't matter because the Machete supports a lower weight range than a equal size DH2 because of the softer flex.

The Machete is a good enough all-mountain board, but it really does shine in the freestyle side of things. Not for jibs, but for jumps. However, the DH2 has considerably more pop than the Machete although the latter is no slacker in that department.

If you're looking for stability and speed, the DH2 wins. Will the Machete be horrible? Not by any means. It is a really good all-mountain freestyle board. It will also ride the powder better than the DH2.

I personally like the Machete more than the DH2. But I ride all-mountain freestyle. I have a separate all-mountain stick.

Your call.

Actually oddly enough according to ride the DH2 weight range is about 20 pounds lower than a similar sized Machete. The cores in the Machete and DH2 are virtually identical besides the DH2 has two more carbon arrays and poprods 2.0. When i bought my DH2 this year I looked into this and decided to base my pick off the Machete sizing as it seems that the two should be reversed, I'm sitting around 210 riding the 159W and have no issues whatsoever.

As for the board it does seem the the DH2 would suit the style of riding your looking to get out of your new board but you can't really go wrong with either board. It basically boils down to this, the DH2 is stiffer with less rocker which makes it more stable for jumps/bombing and the Machete is softer with more rocker which makes it a bit less stable for jumps/bombing but more playful. Keep in mind though both the boards are really similar to each other and the stuff we are pointing out is all at the smallest level.

Well for jibs and rails I have the Kink so the machete would be used only for riding and jumps. I think the lack of pop will not be a big problem, I don't really do massive jumps and I only have the Kink to compare it to :-D

The most important question for me is if the difference between kink and machete concerning riding itself is still big enough so that it is not stupid to own both of these boards

No, no... you misunderstood. It doesn't lack pop. Far from it. Just less than the ultra super duper poppy DH2.

It is very different from the kink. The Kink is a soft board that excels at jibbing. The Machete excels at jumps and hitting everything on the way down the slopes.

Good luck with it! I haven't rode the new Kink yet, but the DH2 is ridiculously fun.. I got it for hitting park/backcountry jumps but so far with the shit conditions I've only been riding rails and haven't got caught up once, it's saved me a number of times where I would eat it on my regular cambered boards. Let me know how the Kink is, but you should probably complain, get some free shit, maybe a bit of a refund?

Comparing a regular 155 Machete to a DH2, the Machete supports a lower range. In their wide versions, the sizes start to have differences so even though we are talking a couple cms difference, it throws off the range comparision.

The Machete has a more narrow waist and is softer so it will support a lower weight range.

The 20 difference you see I believe is coming off a comparison of a 164w Machete vs a 161w DH2?

Either way, I don't see the OP having problems with the Machete. Killer stick and is more affordable to boot!

Thank you all for the input, I basically decided to keep the machete as it is too late now to send it back and get a new board in time. Regardless of this, it seems like it has become impossible to get any more 162w DH2s over here in Germany. (by the way there is also no online shop that has 164w machetes left ...)

EDIT: But it's not like this is just out of lazyness or cause it is not possible to get a dh2 instead ... What you guys said made me come to the conclusion that the machete will work quite fine for me.

Today I rode the machete on my home hill (right on the other side of a little wood next to our house, very small but steep and with loads of powder this year) - it is awesome and so are the deltas. The only thing I couldn't check out yet is going really fast, but I've got a good feeling about that, too. Just the base appears to be pretty dry already, maybe I should wax it right away ...
