Default kinda confused about...

...my riding style. first off, I've been interested in snowboarding for quite some time now, only I wasn't able to do it as much as I liked since I THOUGHT that the closest resort was about 2 hours away. (I live in Westchester and the resort was Catamount) I was recently told of a closer one, (Thunder Ridge) and although it isn't as large--it's a hell of a lot closer and I'm now able to go at least once every week--which is the BOMB! Anyway--with the increased riding, I've come to find out that I feel more comfortable riding "goofy" than I do my regular stance. What I'm CONFUSED about, however, is: Aren't I supposed to be able to ride both ways and switch from "goofy" to regular anyway? If I feel more comfortable riding "goofy" should I change the way my board is set up? I'm able to ride both ways and I'm definetely getting better, I just notice that I feel more comfortable riding "goofy". Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Some people are born goofy. Others become goofy after their voice changes, they get lots of zits, and start trying to mack on girls.

No matter how you ended up being goofy, just be who you are. The rest will then fall into place.

the reason there is a distinction in terms of riding style, it's mainly the direction you will ride primarily.
Most riders prefer one over the other, and so as a result, will be able to do more, ride faster, etc in the prefered style.

If you can ride both, more power to you. If goofy is more comfortable, that's all there is too it. Go with feels comfortable, but if you can ride proficiently both ways, I would continue to do so. It changes things up and is a large part of freestyle.

well this is a little trick i was told to figure out if you ride goofy or regular.

stand up staright. now fall foward. the leg that comes out in front you first to stop you from falling is most likely your dominant leg wich should be your front foot.

Now you know what would be really goofy? If neither leg came out to stop your fall and you fell flat on your face. That would be pretty goofy.

Sounds to me like you already know the answer. If you feel more comfortable riding goofy than you are probably goofy footed and should switch your stance. And being able to ride switch and regular comes more easily to some than it does for others and is more prevalent in freestyle. The shape of the board also affects the how you ride switch as well. It is less difficult for a twin or true twin shaped board to ride switch than it is for a directional.

I'm still getting used to riding goofy since I've always rode regular footed. Once I get more comfortable in goofy, it's on!

Another trick to test which stance:

Find a smooth surface like a tiled or wooden floor to slide on. Take your shoes off, get a running start then try and slide. Whatever foot you throw forward will determine which stance you are.

Thats how they tested me and I did a beautiful both feet out front slide. The guy said that it'll look goofy when I fall so he set me up that way. Once I started to get comfortable I tried to switch and Im imcompetant riding switch. Im 100% not regular
