Help w/NS Legacy Sizing

This is my first post and I know there are plenty of sizing threads out there. I've been riding for about 10 years and currently have the '05 NS Legacy. I'm looking into upgrading and getting the new NS Legacy but can't decide between the 163 and 166.

I am 6'1", 205 lbs and wear a size 12 boot. I would categorize myself as a freerider (too old and big for park) but want something a bit softer (I believe the new ones are softer) and a bit more playful for ollies, ground tricks and small jumps. I can straight line blues, ride black diamonds no problem and don't mind the double blacks on good day. I ride in Lake Tahoe.

I did notice that the waist width (26.9cm) and effective edge (130cm) are the same on both. It appears the only differences would be the dimensions of the tip/tail. With all that said what would be the different riding characteristics between the two?

Also if anyone has the '05 or old model and the new, could you shed some light on the differences you have noticed? Is it lighter, softer, is it better/worse at straightlining? Mine is pretty heavy and I wouldn't mind a lighter board. Should a 161 be considered?

Thanks.

I compared the 161 and 163 side by side, one on top of the other in a store. Probably spent 20 minutes looking at both and trying to decide between the two. I eventually went with the 163 but I haven't had the opportunity to ride it yet. The extra waist width was barely noticeable, just the length. The 161 just felt small to me.

Previously I had a traditional cambered board, size 163 - Its waist width and effective edge specs were very close to the Legacy's 161. I believe with the hybrid R/C design, you can go a little shorter because the board will flatten out when your on it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm also about your size. 6'3"-6'4", 215 with a size 12 boot.

My '10 Legacy 163 is real kind to me.

I'm 6'4" 205lbs, size 13 boot.

The biggest diff between the new and '05 models? Just about everything: Weight, flex, camber, sidecut.

Take that info for what it's worth.

163 just might be the ticket for me.
