When you're 100% confident in your ability to slow down no matter what, you wind up braking less; so while the guy on the faster base next to you is spending 1/3 of his time braking, if you're just hauling ass straight down the fall line, knowing that your edge will grab a hell of a hold on the mountain any time you need it to, you wind up going a lot faster than most people overall
