Dont worry about it! We all started from somewhere. You can either wax your board yourself or take it to a shop. Whatever you are comfortable with. When I got into boarding, I took it to a shop the first couple of times, but you will soon learn that an initial investment of about $40 bucks can take you a long way in terms of waxing your own board. Plus, you know who is doing the work on it.
There are a lot of youtube videos on how to wax a board. It is a short process...some take 20 minutes..some take an hour. Just depends on you.
Besides the waxing, keeping your edges maintained is important, but this will not be an issue in terms of extruded or sintered base. Atleast, I dont think it is.
