Default Detuning my stick?

Ive decided to start and learn boxes/rails/kickers. For rails (and maybe boxes?) iv'e read its better to detune your board so its less likely of catching. Is that right? Or does it make not make that huge of a difference?

And should i go to a shop to get it detuned or attempt on my own (if i'm going to get it detuned that is)?
