Default why do people hate on the burton custom?

you always hear people say "the 1999-2000 board was so much better" the board cannot have regressed can it? if it did wouldn't burton just go back to that modeL?

Or is it just the case of people trying to sound knowledgable by hating on something thats not "indy" due to burton's popularity while trying to prove that they were the "OG"s and rode a board when it was "cool" 10 years ago.

Discuss?

Here's my theory...

Back when the Custom came out, it was one of those game changing boards. The best there was. So obviously, people who were around then remember the board as being that great.

It's one of those first impression things. You try a new ice cream flavor and it's the best thing in the world. Then you try another one, a few from other brands, and try it again. Each time you lose a little bit of that love. Then they make some changes to that flavor and you're like, "Man, it's just not as good as it used to be."

As for quality, it could be argued it was better quality back in those days. Burton used to make their boards in America. Not so anymore.

Nail on head.

The majority of people I meet who try to appear high and mighty by touting their "board tech knowledge" don't live anywhere near the hill so the majority of their "experience" comes from countless hours of reading troll posts about something like a 99 Burton Custom instead of actually forming their own opinion by riding one.

my thought on it is that it was the first "do it all" type of board but now there are tons of these, so now the custom is just one of many

Why is there a new thread every week asking why people hate Burton? Is it so inconceivable someone might not have a great opinion about them?

You pretty much nailed it with this. I had like year 2 of the Custom when it came out and back then that board was a quiver killer you could do so much on it and it wasn't a one trick pony. But the new shape, flex, core, blah blah blah is ass it's just so mismarketed hence why next year the Custom joins the restricted line and you won't see it in every shop.
