Base Damage :\ - Snowboarding Forum

I've got a Nitro Board with a sintered base, and after waxing the bugger last night, I noticed that right on the edges, the base seems to be deteriorating

I've only ridden the board 3 times; once out of the packaging, then waxed it once (before yesterday), and rode two more times. I've only done board slides with it on rails a few times on one of those days. The edges could use deburring, but I can probably get two more days out of it before I need to do that again...

I'll post a pic later, but even though the damage is very very small, I'm just wondering how bad it can get, how to go about fixing it, and why its happend so quickly?

my other (cheaper) board has an extruded base, and has been through a LOT worse and is fine...

I might have the same problem with my board although I havent riden it yet..I just bought 07 GNU Dk vertigo,and I noticed that the edges seemed dry with that white look that you get after riding for awile.So I waxed it and it some what when away.but now im wondering if its something with the manufacturing.I know GNU is manufauctered by Mervin,not sure if Nitro is.but we'll see when I ride it.

Describe the damage? Does the base just look white and flakey? Is it a gouge-like?

^ nah, its not like what it looks like when it needs wax, cuz I just waxed it, lol.... I'm sure that I had enough wax on there when I applied it, but after scraping, i noticed parts right near the edge looked damaged.

its kinda like it looks like it's beginning to crumble apart, and theres a very small hole, maybe 1/8" deep. I was thinking of buying some rub on fluorowax, just to tide me over for this weekend's riding...

it really is pretty small tho, I have obsessive tendencies

honestly just ride and wax a little more often than you normally do. keep an eye on it. if its bad it'll start to delam. more than likely it'll just stay put and otw no harm done.

its small, but i don't want it to get any worse... mind you, this after a full wax, so moments before I saw this, it was swimming in wax until i scraped the base. I'm pretty sure my scarping didn't cause it, but anyway...

to tell ya the truth, I'm a little disappointed at how easily its become damaged...
