RE: Board, Boots & Bindings Advice

Hello!!

I visited this forum a couple years ago and received some great advice for a newbie and am hoping to get some again!! =D

I was told last time that when I eventually look for a board, I'd need a fat one - being boot size US 11.5 - 12 (Pending brand).

I'm ~ 6' 3" tall and weigh ~75kg.

I'm strongly considering an Elan El Grande board; are there any other good boards that would suit opposed to this?

I would say my skill level is better than newbie, and I find 'intermediate' runs very fun, I probably stack 3-4 times per run on an intermediate run; sometimes more if I'm exhausted, or none if I have a clear run. All I'm saying is I'm not a great boarder, but I can stay on my feet all the way down if I really try =]

In terms of boots and bindings I have no idea, I was considering the 'Neon Black' bindings by Elan, simply because in the El Grande board description it says to pair them with those bindings for the ultimate experience =P haha. Heres the links to what I'm considering, but honestly theres so much variety I don't really know where to start!!

hholy shit thats a wide board. Dude, you want to be in the general 260 waist width(think the middle of the board between tip and tail)area with size 12's. Waist width is just a guideline that people go by to gauge whether a board is going to be wide enough to avoid toe drag. Lots of other variables though....... Many manufacturers are making boots that are size 12's that have the footprint of the older style 11's. So with that board having the narrowest waist of 277... ya.. overkill is an understatement. Why elan? All of the a level companies make really good stuff, you just need to find what works for you. Arbor, burton, capita, never summer, k2, ride, smokin, mervin, etc.... all make a good board. Maybe you should look around at some of their boards somemore and find something you are interested in.

It would help people make suggestions if we knew what type of riding you would like to do the most, and also where you are primarily going to be riding. In reality, where you are relatively new and haven't been on very many setups, it really isn't a huge deal what you buy, as long as its a quality board, because you'll get used to it and won't know the difference between it and the dozens of other boards that you could have bought. but what will make a difference is that you get the 'proper' sized board for your size and what you want to do.

Height has little to do with board size, weight is more important. At 165 lbs you can definitely go smaller than 160. I weigh 20 lbs more than you and ride a 156 all over the mountain. For waist width you should be looking in the mid-wide range, 25.4 to 26 ish.

Like others on this thread have said... mid-wide is good enough. I have a mid-wide board (26.0 cm WW) with US11 boots. With a +15/-15 duck stance I have just the right overhang. Any less and it'll be more effort steering the board. Have you tried the Rossignol Angus? Check out the reviews for the Wasteland, Raptor and Angus here:

I would generally steer away from companies many people haven't heard of without trying it out first. No hate for small companies, but most of them are shitty cookie cutter shapes with a premium price tag cause they're "local" or some bullshit.

Do not get their bindings. I don't trust anyone that can't get actual shots of their gear on their own website. A CAD image is not enough. Stick with established companies for bindings and boots.

I would highly recommend you look more into Arbor, K2, Bataleon, and Nitro for the type of riding your into. Wasteland, Raygun, Goliath, or Team Gullwing respectively. And bindings try Flow NXT-ATSE's, Raiden Phantoms, Salomon Chiefs, Ride Capo's, Rome Targa's, or Flux SF45's.

Haha mate I'm prolly going up in a week or so, depends on when it snows next. have a look into the carbon credit or riders choice if u want to go with gnu, and if you buy everything from there they should drop the price a bit as I said chat to nick or frosty
