I am an intermediate boarder who rides all-mountain and a little park. I have my eye on a Ride machete 161 wide. I am 5'10" 150lbs and have an 11 boot size. My current board is a Never Summer Decade '02 161. Since I have never ridden a wide board before I am a little aprehensive to pull the trigger on one. How does the width affect the ride. Would it take some getting use to. I have also heard from friends that because of the board's flatness and longer affective edge that it tends to feel bigger than cambered boards. Is this true? A lot of questions I know. Thanks for the help.

At 150 lbs you can go smaller than a 161. I'm 180 and I ride a 158 for all mountain, but even I could probably get away with smaller. You should probably be riding a board around 155ish for all mountain. It's all preference, but you could definitely get away with smaller than 161 if you wanted. For width with a size 11 I would stay in the 152-158 waist width range, but slightly narrower or wider you could get away with depending on your stance and angles.
