I've reached what I would call "intermediate" this year and I thought it was time to get my own equipment. Up until now, I had always rented from shops that had quality demos (ie Burton Custom, Supermodel, or at worst Elite) but I've never really known anything about equipment. I told the shop (I won't name it yet) that I didn't own a board yet but I was just looking for a versatile board and I liked a more surfy feel. I'm 6' 165 lbs and they directed me to the Rome Notch 158 and I took their advice. However since I've done more reading, the Rome Notch doesn't appear to be a very versatile board. It's tapered and looks to be a powder-specific board. I'm on the east coast and I'll rarely ride out west (where all the powder is). Do I now own a board that won't perform very well unless I can make it to the mountain the day after it snows?

well your right, the notch is very directional and meant for deep powder. if you have the option too, id return the board and try to get your hands on a bataleon. they have this triple base thing that would give you more of a surf feel. something else you might look into is the trs magne banana, it will also give you the surf feel and since you ride east coast pack, the magne will be your new best friend. the notch isnt ideal, but anyone can find a way to make any board fun, so if you can't get something else, look forward to find a way to ride the notch like noone else ever has.
