Ride Machete? Experience, Sizing, Bindings?

1. I was looking into a skate banana or process burton but now it looks like I'm going to buy the ride machete. Anyone have experience with this board and how it handles as an "All mountain" as thats what I'll need.. I ride about 50% groomers 15% park 25% off in the powers 10% off in the powder jumps I see/find/make. I also will ride a wide range of runs from green runs with friends who are just starting to black diamonds with guys that I'm trying to keep up with etc. Basically for around $400 I havent found a board that I thinks better than the Ride Machete.. Thoughts?

2. I'm 6'3'' 195 / size 13 shoe i'm athletic build, big shoulders small waist etc not a pud. I was looking into getting the 157 wide but do people think this board is to small for me??? Should I be looking at a 161 wide? I like the idea of the 157w because of how easy itll be for me to spin, grind, maneuver etc? But am I fooling myself into getting a board thatll be to small for me? (I recently turned 20 so I assume im pretty much done growing..)

3. Bindings? Rome 390s are pretty rough on the price tag but I dont want to get a scummy pair of bindings and ruin my board if I have too ill for out some serious cash but are there other bindings with near quality for maybe a little less $$$? Dont hesitate to say no o_O!

Thanks in advance!!

Kramer.

Go with the 161W if you're more in to bombing or the 57 if you want to do a bit more park.

Machete is a solid board, I had one the first year they came out in 2010, haven't ridden this year but it should be a little bit improved with a slightly different camber profile and I think they beefed it up a little bit. It is a good "all around" board, stable on jumps, the rocker is really mellow and it jibs pretty well, and slimewalls tech really helps absorb chatter and give you a little bit damper ride.

Ya thats what I was thinking I've never been into super bombing hills. Maybe every once in a while but i like more carving in powder findings small jumps ollie'ing etc etc. Also I feel like the 157W will give me enough surface area with the rocker to keep me floating real nice in the powder.. i feel like the 161 will just add weight and take away from maneuverability when im trying to get technical etc. but my only concern is my size.. depending on what phase of my meal plan im in i get up to around 202-203 sometimes.

Ya i feel like the machete is the best "all mountain" board for its price that i've seen

I'm 5'11" 195-200lbs. and went w/ a 156W Carbon Credit. I'm a noob so wanted to stay on the small side for easier transition of turns. My board feels great but wonder how the 159W or 162W would be...I'm sure they would be better in deep pow but I live in N.J. oh well...I'm happy, don't know if this helps you??? lol

i just got some burton cartels, havent ridden them yet but the seem like they will work pretty well.

Also-
Im 5'10 165 lbs. I ride a 157, you should be good with a 161 the weight doesn't really make that much difference.

I say 157w too, for pow and park it will be sweet. The 161w will be much less playful but obviously a bit more stable at high speed, If you can ride well in a good stance nice and low you won't have a problem with the 157w IMO.

Unless bombing blacks at top speed is a main priority I would go 157w.

this is what im thinking since once i get going my center of gravity drops once i get into my stance.

but no one is concerned with my height or weight?

it seems funny to me to get such a small board but i have heard that the machete wides ride a lot bigger than they are...

ive never had a wide board so idk how they compare to normals..

Your weight is fine for the 157w IMO. Keep it waxed up and in good condition and you should float just fine in the pow.
These days boards ride shorter and the traditional ideas of weight to length of board are too long. These days people want to play more and not ride a big plank. I ride a 158 regular highlife and have ridden 156 in 40cm of pow no problem. I weigh 175, 185 with my backpack which I always rock.
The wide will account for your extra weight.

I was seriously thinking of the 161 Highlife, but I am so glad I went shorter its just more fun. The board still floats great and is easier to spin and block stall, I can even press it which at 161 would be way harder.

161 is huge seeing how the most ill ever weigh is maybe 205-210...

Its because a long time ago when me and all my friends were buying boards we were told we needed a board in between our chin and our nose.. which leaves me @ like a 164... but at the time was only a 155 (which i still ride today, its a Lamar hhaahah) but its definitely time for an upgrade. The more research I do the more i realize getting a board that big is absurd.. then once i decided im getting a wide.. the 161wide is going to be a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge board???

my only worry was stability while carving etc

Don't worry about it. Again old school thinking.

I carve up the piste and side country on my 158 with 0 issues of stability. Its true that the 161 will be more stable at super high speed carving but not by that much. Stay low with a good stance and you will be able to carve way better than your old board. The machete has rocker in the front and back with a nice stable flat middle, it will ride with good stability IMO.

Plus you get all the benefits of the shorter length, the 161 will give a slight edge when carving fast but you loose in all the other departments.

sorry I took so long to get back to you via PM I was out of town. I'd (personally) go with the 57 especially since the new model is slightly stiffer than the 2010 but I ride a lot more park than you do so the length was really the biggest reason I sold mine last spring. It sounds like you ride more all-mountain/grooms/off-piste so the 61 is probably a better choice and if you're only riding 15% park then you won't sacrifice anything by staying at 161. As will all rocker/reverse boards, they tend to ride a little bit longer than their stated length so a 57 is gonna ride more like a 159 and the 61 more like a 63.

As for the 157 if you're still thinking about it you're definitely not too heavy for it, and I'm pretty sure the stance options are going to be the same on both of those boards so your height won't be a real factor either. I don't think the 57 would sacrifice much on jumps and I would not worry about it buckling on you even on bigger jumps.

Ultimately your call I don't think you will notice a real big difference by 4cm. If you plan to ride a little more in the park then the 57 is a no-brainer, otherwise I think the 61 is good.
