Having trouble finding a new board. Help appreciated.

Hello, well this is the third go around in trying to find a new board for this season. I went around to about seven shops today to see what sort of boxing week sales they had and to get some info. I walked out of each one with more choices then I went in with and got some conflicting information on some boards. I figured, time to get some more help on here.

My stats:

Height: 6'
Weight: 190-195 lb
Boot size: 11.5
Bindings: Burton Customs L, will be getting replaced with either Rome Targa's or 390 bosses.
Seasons riding: 5 (approx 30 days a season)
Riding Style: 5% park (might get into more), 45% groomers, 45% trees/glades/side hits, 5% powder

Based on the info I got from my last posting I had decided on a Nitro Team Gullwing 157W. However, I discovered that only one shop carries Nitro around where I live and they didn't have any in stock. They also won't be getting new stock for a while.

I was recommended:
Yes Basic 157W (I know very little about them)
Never Summer Revolver 156
GNU Carbon Credit 157W
Ride Machete 157W
Never Summer Proto ctx 155

I was also looking into the NS Legacy 158,Lib Tech TRS and Trice Pro.
I am basically looking for something that will just be fun all over the mountain and in the trees. Any recommendations are welcome.

Thanks.

Idk, but I don't think you necessarily have to go with a wide board. Get your bindings strapped onto the boards and fit your boots in and check the overhang. If it's less than like 1 and a 1/2 inches (I've heard on this forum - but I imagine you'd be under an inch toe and heel sides) then go with a standard wide board! If you're only 5% park then I would not say the Legacy (though I think it should be not the Evo - for your feet) it is super amazing fun but won't be the best groomer board. Proto would be better for that but still not very damp. The Machete sounds like it might be the one on that list - though I know very little about Gnu (never ridden), Yes (have only ridden one and I didn't like it FYI) I would have recommended the Never Summer Heritage given your information. Read Snowolf's review of it!

I would go with the Machete or the Proto CTX. the machete is an all around, do everything well board. the proto is as well and has more tech but is also more expensive.

the gnu carbon creddit is like pretty much a skate banana.

So you're telling these guys at the shop you basically wont be in the park and are mostly riding all mountain and powder and those are what they're "selling" you?

Even if you just look at the manufacturers shpeal on the boards, the only ones that fit are maybe the YES and Proto. Neither are the best option from each company.

From NS I would be looking at the SL or Heritage. From YES the Big City (if it's similar enough to it predecessor the Optimistic its probably the only YES worth anything). From Ride the Berzerker.

If any of them deal Arbor ask for the Coda. Or Signal ask for the Omni.

Wouldn't your budget also be important to note? People can recommend you boards all day long, but if they aren't within your budget, what's the point? I'm 6'2" and 192lbs. I ride a K2 Raygun 161, they have a wide also. It's not as fancy as the boards you listed, but the price point is good and it's a fun board to ride.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback. It is appreciated.

I am thinking I just had bad luck when it came to shop reps, as those were the boards and sizes they recommended me for all mountain, trees and groomers with minimal time in the park.

My budget is set at around 500 give or a take a bit.

I have read Snowolf's review on the Heritage and it does seem to suit my style well and I will be going to check it out soon. The Proto review peaked my interest but I am not sure it will suit my needs as well as some of the other suggested boards for the price.

Nivek: The Berzerker looks quite interesting, thanks for bringing that one up. I will have to check it out. Reading up on the coda, do you think that the grip tech widens the board enough around the bolts to allow for a 11.5 boot size? It looks like a fun board.

I have been getting conflicting information about my boot size fitting standard width boards or having to stick with wides as it seems to fall right in the middle for many brands. Thanks Syphabiscuit for the info on the general overhang measurements, I will have to see if that works.

Please listen to a professional hardgoods buyer and sales guy. You will want a midwidish to a wide board (25.6 to 26.0 plus) due to your foot size. It's really going to depend on the length of the board you select and your personal preference. I would recommend not buying a park board since you are not in the park very often. The NS Heritage X would be a great choice. Go with the NS Legacy 159 if you want a more forgiving ride than the Heritage X. The Lib T. Rice in the 157 would be a great choice.

500 bucks gives you a lot of options. Not sure what your salesrep was smoking but that list is gay as fuck.

The 157W Gullwing is a sick board, I'd stick with your gut and just order it online and get it shipped to you. If youre going NS Get a Legacy or a Proto, instead of going short and wide, I'd grab a 159-160. Should fit your feet.
