Rental board model same as Regular model?

Hey again guys,

as mentioned in another thread, got a killer deal on a Salomon Pulse 160cm set for about $100. Took it on the slopes on Saturday and had a blast.

However, just noticed an interesting thing about the board I was hoping one of you guys could clear up.

The board itself is actually a Rental Model. In fact, on the design itself it says "Pulse RTL" which stands for rental. Don't get me wrong, I bought the board brand new, but it was obviously intended to be sold to a rental shop. My question is, do companies actually make different board? One for consumers, and one for rental shops? Also, generally, are the boards usually the same? Anything to be concerned about?

im pretty sure that companies put RTL or for burton, LTR, just so that rental shops can identify if a board is a rental if someone tries to steal it from them. But most rental boards have an edge bevel on them, ive found at least which just makes it harder to catch an edge, but other than that, your board should be pretty much the same as the retail model.

The only other thing I've just noticed (not sure if it has to do with the fact that it's a rental board or not), is that the top's finish doesn't seem to have that fiberglass/plastic feel that most boards have. Instead, it feels very wooden/grippy, almost like that of the top of a skateboard deck. do some boards come this way or did they perhaps forget to add the fiberglass portion?
