Going from skis to snowboard and need advice.
Hello and great forum! I'm a longtime skier who has started boarding bowering a buddies board. I ended up buying boots size 10 but want to pick up a board. I'm 6 foot, 180 lbs wanted to ask if the newer board are really necessary at this stage or am I better off with say a Sims Absolute new off EBay for 150 bucks. Local shop is pushing a ride Antic or Burton Clash but wanted some opinions. Again great forum and thanks in advance

I've taken up and then abandoned enough pursuits over the years to have learned not to spend a bunch of dough until I'm sure I'm going to stick with something. YMMV. Keep in mind that the end of season sales start soon, at which time you might be able to get a sweet deal on some new equipment (I did that my first year). Meanwhile, depending on how often you plan to go, you might rent a couple of times or just buy a beater board locally (craigslist?). I can almost guarantee that whatever board you buy, new or used, you'll want to replace it in a year. It's not a quality issue, it's just that when you know more about what you want, you'll want something else. Unless you're incredibly lucky or very very smart.

i have a freind who just switched as well and bought and learned on the infinite. there are some other good deals on there as well. |
Pretty much why I figured a used board would be good. There's a sims near me new for 150.00 but can't find much info on the Sims boards.

buy that flow board for $50 more than that sims, or the darkstar for the same price.

yea the flow deck will be better than the sims

I recently just went from ski to snowboard.
Its a total different feeling, i would suggest a forward stance with your binding since you are used to facing down the mountain and it will be easier for you to learn and get the confidence. Then transition into duck if you are not doing one direction. Falling is a lot worse and more painful in snowboarding since it harder to fall the way you want too. So just keep it going, took me a whole day to finally learn how to link turns and not eat it every 5 feet lol. Im also 6'6 220 and my boot size is 15 lol, so if i know one thing its that im more built for ski but as a Marine i never accept defeat haha |
