Hi Guys,
We are already starting to see many of the biggest retailers and online stores slashing prices to below MAP on 2012 gear. This is a little early, and in many cases violates the agreements these retailers have with the brands that they sell. It has been a rough snow year in many areas so this is not 100% unexpected, but most solid brands require that their retailers not bust through Minimum Advertised Pricing (MAP) until at least February 15th. These sales are cool for buyers but take a heavy toll on the industry in some ways as well. Anyhow, interested in hearing your thoughts on all of that. Our take, we will repect addvertised pricing until it is cool to go lower it BUT at the same time, we will ALWAYS beat any advertised price that is below MAP - and for SBF Members we will throw in a free beanie too (your choice). STOKED! |

Although I understand MAP structures have pros and cons, in many industries they amount to little more than price control by a cartel.
It is hard for me as a consumer to empathize with product line that routinely goes on sale for 40%-60% off and still manages to turn a decent profit moving most of their inventory at that price point. All that really says to me is that I am being gouged. Somehow, the people who defend this practice tend to be retailers or entities whose proforms help them avoid the issue entirely...... but I do concede that is it currently more a minor annoyance and less a problem since there are secondary avenues available for people looking for stuff for cheap. That being said, I don't have any problem at all spending extra cash with a retailer who puts the time/effort in giving me good service or making sure that I stay informed which Wired definitely has. +10 for WiredSport. I am looking for a couple of items for a possible 2nd trip this season and your website will be the first stop I make. What do you recommend in impact shorts for women? |

It sucks for everyone in the long run. You get a couple shops that slide by maybe they get a warning and rarely do you see what happened to Skierra Patio go down. Companies need to enforce the prices or limit/pull their accounts.
It's a shitty season everywhere and this is going to be a make it or break it year for a lot of shops. For a consumer it's awesome and that I understand but for retailers not going to be good.
