I know you guys get a ton of these threads, and I apologize in advance, but I need help finding a board for my brother for his birthday. He wants a board mainly for the park, but wants the option to use it in the backcountry also.

He's about 5'10 180lbs.

Anyways, I found two boards (both used): Indoor Survival FK (154) and a Skate Banana BTX (152). Here's the thing though, the Indoor Survival FK has more wear (one very very small spot requires ptex), where as the BTX has minor wear, with no flaws. But the BTX costs $100 more.

I'm having trouble choosing, and I don't know too much about either board besides what I've read. I'm hoping I could get some opinions.

Both boards are pretty short for your brother, IMO. The 154 might be ok if he keeps it in the park but the 152 is too short, especially if he wants to do backcountry (I imagine he means freeriding in general?). If he wants a board that can do park and freeride, which is a wide stretch, you should look at something in the 156-158 range.

Yes freeriding, would the 152 still be too short? He's been riding a 154 since he started, but he only goes so often (2-3 times a year), and his board is 12 years old! It's ridiculous, so I thought I'd help him out. I've heard the hype about the Skate Banana but I understand it's still a good board. Is it worth it to spend the extra $100 on a board 2cm shorter but in better condition? Or just get the Indoor Survival FK $100 cheaper and around his size?

Thanks again for your help.

Im about your brothers size 5'11 and 180lbs so maybe I could be of help. Both boards are short as some have said but 152 is way too short unless your jibbing on rails all day. The FK is more stiff and would be a better option but is still on the short side and would be mainly for park. The board I uses out of the park is a 159 and prob would be close to what your brother would use if he likes back country. If he is more park then back country then prob a 155 would be the sweet spot for him with some type of reverse camber.

At 180 lbs, both of those boards will be complete shit in pow. The full rocker skate banana might be slightly less shit, but it's so soft and short for his weight it'll still be awful.

Unless those are a complete steal, you should look for something else.

If your willing to put in the work you can get an New Arbor Westmark for about 235.00 this way. Google Arbor Westmark 155 find Sportschalet they have it for about 251 then price match it with Evo. Or just look around Gear Trade. They have a few Horrors and Indoor Survivals more in his range. Also theres a Gull Wing that would fit the bill.
