getting first splitboard

This season I've started getting into snowshoeing/climbing/mountaineering. I really want to combine that with snowboarding and get into backcountry boarding. None of my backcountry friends snowboard (they all ski ), so I'm thinking I'll be needing a splitboard if I want to keep up.

I need help figuring out what length splitboard I should be getting. I'm 5'4", 145lbs, size 8 feet. My in-bound boards are a 151cm and fast/skinny 154cm (where I still sink in pow… but that's cause it's only 23cm wide). Would a wider 154 be okay? 158 too long? Is the only difference in sizing that I'll be heavier because of a backpack?

I ride 156 solid in-bounds and 161 split for bc.

What you want really depends on how heavy your pack, terrain, expected use, your personal size preference, and then we get into shapes and rocker profiles, etc.

To me, a 154 split seems short for you.

Thanks guys!

lol @ 'light weight'... I'm heavier than most other girls that I meet. :P The reason I'd asked about the 154 is because I found a great deal for one on craigslist, but if it's too short, it's too short. Also found the Prior Brandywine (which I've demo'd and liked in a shorter length) on sale in a 158, and it sounds like that might be okay? I'd probably be mostly riding in the Cascades such as descending from Camp Muir, Baker, St Helens, Sahale, etc.

PS - Snowolf I saw your St Helens trip report. Great photos! I was there two days later and it was all clouds and fog and wind and rain.

156 Signal Epic Split.

Trust me, it will float. And Signal Split experience comes from working with Guch and his Volcom Split. So its not just blind for them.
