that'll probably be enough. what kind of camera do you have? i shot with a little sony hvr-a1u and i just wrapped it in a bandana and threw it in my camelbak....then again it was my film schools, and not mine
for protection while shooting, unless you splurge for a porta-brace bag (they are super hot), i wouldn't worry about trying to protect it too much. a quick idea: i came up with a great way to get low steady shots while boarding. take a real small tripod, put the camera on it, then hold the whole thing upside down and just flip the footage in post. it's how i got all the boarding footage on the loveland video i did, and it turned out great.
and for the resorts, i've never had any problems filming. the people running the lifts usually think it's pretty cool too.
