My 11/12 skate banana has been without storage wax all summer. And I'm curious if there'll be any permanent damage to it? i.e having worse float/speed even though i wax it before using it again?
Oh and to be clear, I used it last year and early this year, so it doesn't have factory wax. I did wax it once or twice though before using it. I didn't really board much that season.
I just hope it hasn't dried out too much during the summer until now. I won't be using it again til December.
yea it won't cause any problems, just letting the wax sit on the board all summer helps to seal it better. I've been on the Skate Banana and it is an awesome board so enjoy the season!
There was a 5 year period where I did no riding, and my board sat around with no wax. When I got back in to snowboarding I gave it a tune-up and it was good to go. Granted it was stored indoors.
Don't listen to these guys. It's going to spontaneously combust taking out your pets/children/wife/house or whatever you find near and dear to you. :cheeky4: Seriously though, they're right, it's a snowboard, it'll be fine without some wax on it for a few months.
A big reason why waxing before storage is suggested is to leave a coat of wax on the edges. That protects them from humidity, etc. and the pitting that comes from rust. You may want to have a look at your edges.
how can i tell if they're not up to standards? considering i know absolutely nothing about that stuff, i'd feel better just taking it to some guy/girl who does. unless it's pretty straight forward to notice, as well as fix.
i will try to learn the whole DYI for waxing and sharpening edges or w/e it is you do eventually though.
Not true, right now that guy's board is stomping around the basement starved for wax, and it will bite his arm off unless he throws a cake of wax down the stairs to distract it before descending.
but i live in an apartment complex with store houses located next to the staircase top, so no basement with stairs ;p
