Yeah, it's definitely worth doin' yourself. It takes me a little while, but that's more time with her, so it's worth it in the end.
It does cost a little bit to get the equipement (using an old clothes iron isn't recommended; from what I understand, the holes under the iron mess with the chemistry of heat and air, or something like that. A waxing iron is flat, and has no holes in its surface) but you can keep it under $75 probably- that's including the iron and various tools. Check out the threads about waxing and tuning-there's a ton of info around here. Also, teaching yourself how to wax and tune your board will help your lazy bastard situation.

that said a waxing iron is better just cuz its less likely to burn the wax simply from being too hot. mom's iron can get too hot fo sho, but it's not the holes messing with the earth's polarity - or something like that.

haha okay cool. I'd heard that somewhere and ever since I've been worried about it blowing up or something...
![]() That being said, it is nice to be able to adjust the temp. Don't want to burn my board. |

Waxing a board doesn't take a huge amount of time -- as little as a half hour including setup and cleanup. Although if a beer or two is involved the time can stretch. But you don't do it when you're in a hurry. You tell your wife you'll be in the garage for a couple of hours and not to interrupt you unless someone's bleeding; you get your ipod; make sure the garage fridge has beer in it. Then you go out there, move the car, set everything up, and proceed to balance beer, waxing, and music.
Even the post-waxing cleanup is part of the ritual.

Bought a new board so don't really need to worry about that.. but I guess I could practice on my old board, couldnt care less if it fucked it up. Just bought a full tuning kit and its in the post.. my housemates are going to take some look at me waxing a snowboard one week before summer begins
