I just went to my local board store and was thinking about buying a 2013 Yes the greats board, which apparently has ultimate grip on the edges....
Now I know this isn't super prominent like magne traction but I literally cannot see anything?? Reviews online mention tiny serations and I have looked VERY VERY close and the edge looks totally smooth to me? Am I being dumb? Can you see it? Or is there 2 versions of the board ie one with and one without? |

Apparently they now call it "Tragna-maction" instead of "Ultimate Grip". I had the Great Beauties board from last year. There aren't serrations like Mervin's Magnetraction, but a few different length and radius edges along each side. This is similar to Never Summer's "Vario Grip" and Salomon's "Equalizer' sidecuts. I believe there are subtle differences between these, but the principle is the same.
I didn't see any tech description on Yes's website, so no help there. Go to NS's website and look into their Vario Grip as an indicator. |

I have a gnu with mtx at the mo and I look down the edge and it's super obvious. I look down the edge of this Yes the greats and cannot see anything, I figured I'd see the tragna maction just not as obvious. I'm paranoid the shop has tuned it all off :-)
Should I be able to see it? |

I sold my Great Beauties last week, so I can't check what the sidecut looks like. If i recall correctly, it's not obvious to see, but you may want to go back to the shop and compare to other Yes boards.
BTW, it doesn't grip as well as Magenetraction. |

If you're talking about this seasons Yes Great Dudes it's just a multi radi sidecut that grips really well. Probably one of the best if not THE BEST board I rode last year.

I just picked up a 2013 Great Dudes myself and had the same thought. Coming from a Lib TRS I thought I must have gotten a dud. But after I did some more reading I can confirm what everyone else is saying - Yes doesn't have the same magna traction but it does have some variation in the side cut.
