Edge Repair (Good or Bad) - Snowboarding Forum

Towards the end of last year I got a pretty good ding in my edge on my toe edge below my rear foot. I got it repaired at my local shop and just wondering what you guys think about the repair. Was it done properly. Good enough to ride. I am in the market for a new board but just wondering if this will affect the rideability of this board. Should I have it repaired again. All thoughts and suggestions will be much appreciated.

Take it to an auto body shop and ask them to weld some slag or drip some lead on it. They probably won't even charge you anything because it would be the weirdest thing they did that day. And they would be able to grind that line pretty straight.

I could be wrong, but I would imagine the heat from welding would do some damage to the base (I'm no expert, but I do stick metal things together occasionally with my MIG setup). Maybe someone really skilled with a TIG setup could do it without excessive heat...

I also don't think too many shops use lead anymore, plus I suspect the lead would wear quickly since it's much softer.

I haven't seen enough repairs to really judge, but I would see how it feels riding. If it's terrible, take it back to the shop and ask them to replace the damaged section of edge. If that's too expensive, then what Weipim said.

God that looks like crap. I've done better work slamming my edge into a rock and using a melted gatorade bottle to fill the base.

That was my feeling as well. Now the question becomes should I get it fixed or consider getting a new board. I am open to suggestions but I am looking for a cambered deck with a similar ride feel as the Sierra Crew it would be replacing. Any thoughts on how much it would cost to have it repaired correctly?

Read the thread on the photo link. It's short and at the bottom your question is answered.

My guess? Depending on how tight you are with the shop, $50-$150. 150 maybe high but $120 wouldn't suprise me a bit, especially at a fancy spot like Vail Village or somesuch.
