when I read "over-reacting" in the title my first thought was that you tracked him down at the end of the run and beat the crap out of him

Yep.. If this guy was in front of you, then you were at fault. If he sped past you and quickly cut you off as he went by, then that's maybe a different story. It's like driving a car, if you rear-end someone, it's pretty much your fault no matter what.
