New Jones Mountain Twin; how to prep? - Snowboarding Forum

I just got myself a new 2013 Jones Mountain Twin from my local shop. Now I wonder what I need to do to prepare it for a long and happy riding-live:

- Would you advise me to wax it right away? The guy at shop told me it's ready to go (straight from the factory) but lots of info here at the forum suggests otherwise.

- if so, would you advise to go all the way and do several layers of base-prep first, then normal wax?

- the MT has "mellow magnetraction". Do I need a special edge-tuning tool to keep it sharp through the season?

all i can tell you is what i would do. which may be different from what someone else might do. i'd give it a light hot wax and detune the contact point areas. 45 minute job and the board is squared up for quite a few days. i've sold a couple of these and did it for free as part of the deal.

no special tool needed for sharpening magnatraction edges.

I bought one this year as well, ride it the first day with factory wax. After the first day I waxed it. You will love the board. Turns lime a champ whole holding a great edge. Have fun!

I wouldn't mind putting some time and effort into it. Just want to make sure my base is in the most optimal condition so it can stay a great board for a long time.

So you both say just one normal wax-job should be enough?

The board will be fine.

1. Unwrap.
2. Mount bindings.
3. Ride.
4. Maybe adjust bindings.
5. Ride some more.

At some point maybe do a waxing (or have it done by a shop). Then keep riding.
