Burton Mystery vs Fish for deep powder?
Hi All,

New to this forum so thanks in advance for any advice,
I currently own a Burton Mystery and will be in deep powder in March, the place where I'm going has Fish's available to use and I was wondering if anyone has experience with both these boards in deep powder? I know the obvious, that the Fish is a specific powder board and be less tiring, but I want to know how much "worse" the Mystery will be in the same conditions? I can use both but am wondering if it'll even be worth taking the Mystery along?

Ride the fish. Are we talking Hakkoda here?

Bugaboos Heli in Canada, I'll be using the Mystery in a resort around there to "warm up" so I'll have it with me, they don't really want you bringing in extra gear if you don't need to as they want to keep the weight down in the choppers when they move you into the lodges.

dont bother bringing the mystery for cat boarding. your powder abilities and endurance will surprise you riding a true powder board. tight trees, high speeds, and even keeping you balance and "skochin" around in deep snow is easier on a powder board with a nose that wont sink.

Yeah, good call, that is what I'm thinking. I'm trying to get as fit as I can, I'm a bit worried about how tough it will be!

Wow, to me the Mystery is just too prohibitively expensive.

Just a quick update, I ended up riding the Fish the whole time, it was incredible in the powder, took a second to get used to the super short tail and getting the weight right but it was incredible. It caught me out once or twice in tight trees when I wanted to ride switch to get a line but the short tail just dug down under the snow! It really is a directional board! I also found that you could load up the weight on the back and use it as a "brake" if you needed to control speed, very cool.

A week of helicopter boarding costs $10k, if the guys spending that for a week the mystery is almost rounding error.

So I put together a quick video from the trip riding a Fish, hope it gives people some idea of what a heli boarding trip is like.

I never rode the Mystery there, the place offered Fish's or Barracuda's, I chose a 56 Fish and never looked back!
