Please exclude those die hard pro competitive models or niche market model like kessler virua etc, those are great but way too niche |

Custom X has to said. It's the Custom X. Other stand outs, Bataleon Undisputed, Salomon Official, Flow Maverick, maybe a Nitro Pantera, and I would still have to put in the Ride Highlife.

If you mean expensive then that's one thing, but coming from smaller builders in foreign countries doesn't make them bad!If I were buying an off-the-shelf freeride board it would probably be the Volkl Coal XT. It can't be niche because Volkl is a very large ski/snowboard manufacturer. Look at skis next time you're at the hill I'm willing to bet you'll see lots of Volkls. Völkl International | Snowboards | *Coal XT available in 158, 163 and 168 Best thing is they're relatively cheap in the ultra-high performance freeride board world. They're around $600-700... Thing is even though the 158 has an effective edge of 127 cm which is pretty good (the Custom X in the same size is more like 122 cm effective edge), the Virus Avalanche FLP AFT 160 has over 140 cm effective edge. It's not even in the same catagory. If you're really wanting to carve as a significant part of your freeriding you may want to find something with a long effective edge and/or BX shape. |
