NEED to pick this week
Pretty decent beginner that is 6'1" between 180-185 with size 11 boots (forum formulas); going to be in NY and NJ mostly.
First time buyer so not looking to spend too much.
Closeout Boards I'm looking at (in order of interest).
Rome Garage Rocker 159 $210 and 30% off..Cheapest but good review.
Ride Crush 157w or 159w $230
Ride Antic $200
Forum Conflict 2011, 157. Pro board. Stiff. Maybe not good to start with but good board $210
Forum Manual 159 $200
Forum Recon 158w $195
Forum Scallywag 158 $227
Ride Agenda 159 $200
What kind of riding are you doing?
I like the scallywag, but they will all do you just fine.. If you want to start pressing around and hitting boxes in the park, get a softer flexing board.. If you just want to charge the whole mountain a stiffer board wouln't be a bad choice either
I have a Garage Rocker as my park board and it's not very durable (though I'm not nice to it either)
I almost bought a Crush, they seem to be really soft though.. I'd get a 156-157 max being you're on the east coast and don't need the board to float in powder. It'll be easier to throw around and play around with. (A Longer board is generally better for charging)
I remember the first time I rode it I almost wet myself. It was so stiff and so fast, I couldn't believe it. That first season I think I progressed two years in my riding abilities just because it became a matter of SURVIVAL! If I just hiccupped, this board would turn. But I loved it! I finally retired it a couple of years ago and bought a Never Summer Titan, another very stiff board.
However, if you're planning on doing park, or if you don't have equally stiff boots/bindings to go with the board, don't buy a stiff board.
Sorry...I can't comment on any of the others. I've only owned three boards, one cheapo and two high-end freeride bombers.
