What if you don't wax your board?

Hey all,

I just got an 08 Atomic Hatchet and was wondering whether you really need to wax your board or not. This is my first board and I'm probably only going to go snowboarding like 5-10 times this year. Besides not being as fast if I don't wax it, will anything else happen? Will the board last longer if you wax it regularly? I'm just trying to figure out if I should bother investing in a snowboard iron right now basically. Thanks for any help.

An iron isn't really a major investment. You don't even need to buy the purpose-built models, the cheapo household model from Target works just as well as long as you don't let it get too hot.

Your board isn't going to suddenly self destruct if you don't wax it, but there is really no reason not to. When I think of how much money I've spent on snowboarding so far, waxing & tuning supplies are WAY down on the running list of expenses but every dollar was well spent.

Your base will dry out, you can get base burn, the board rides like shit, you're not prolonging the life of the board.
