So I'm looking to buy my own gear and am curious on what is the best time to buy. Is right now a bit too early to get any good sales/discounts?

Most websites show "sale" prices, but not being familiar with the snowboarding season or snowboarding gear, I'm not sure if they are just saying that, or if the real sales will come "soon."

Should I wait longer?

I would like to go snowboarding 4 to 6 more times between now and the end of march, which is about $120 to $180 worth of equipment rentals. Am I likely to save more than that if I buy equipment in April?

There are some great deals to be had starting around February, but in my experience the end of March is when things really start to kick-off.

Yeah we're still a bit early. If you keep several options in mind for all your gear, waiting until mid-late March is when the best deals happen. I've bought most of my gear for 50% off!!!

Unfortunately things get picked clean though, so you've got to jump when the opportunity presents itself.

If your total setup was originally going to run $800 MSRP, it is probably $540 now 30% off, at 50% off it will be $400, add your rental cost of $120 and you are still spending the same amount of money.

If you are not picky on the gear you are planning on buying and just want a deal go ahead and wait, but if there is something that you already know you want , get it now and you get to start enjoying it now , the money savings is small.

Agree, at those rental rates it probably makes sense to buy sooner rather than later. Also ensures that the OP still gets the gear that he wants - during the later sales periods selection of products and sizes can be a lot more limited.

I was thinking the same thing last night. Also, I really wanted a specific board and was afraid it might sell out. After seeing what poutanen said about sellouts I decided to see if I could find some specific boards from last year, and I couldn't... so I figured I shouldn't wait too long for a deal and risk having the board sell out for good. So I just went ahead and bought it!

Now to find some boots and bindings
