Alright guys, getting ready to buy my first board. I've always rented but I have decided it costs too much to keep renting them so I mine as well buy one. Been eyeing the Never Summer SL here for the past few weeks and I'm leaning hard to it. I need some advice on the length though. I'm about 5' 8" and 165 pounds. I'm only 16 so I'm probably still going to grow. I want to get a board that I can use and not outgrow the first year I have it. Also, I would like your guys personal thoughts on this board. Thanks a lot!
IMO if u can afford it get the Proto because it is just better and similar but better. But the SL is a fine choice. At your age we could mess up the suggestion a bit just depends on how much you are going to grow. I haven't grown in height since I was 16. :dunno:
I would say anything from 153-158 would be fine for you, just as a point of reference going forward.
I weigh 180 and ride a 154 Proto. I ride it all over everywhere but I'm maxing it out fo sho.
i'm the same height and weight as you, maybe 160 now, but i bought the 155 sl for a great deal about a month ago. got to ride it only 2 times but the length seemed just fine.
Alright guys, thanks for all the info. I ended up going with the sl 158. It will be here Thursday. Can't wait to get it and get it all set up and ready to go for next season!
The SL is a terrific all mountain, does everything well board. Next to the Proto, it is perhaps the most versatile board in the Neversummer line without the price tag of the Carbonium Series. At your weight, I would have gone shorter myself but you are growing and a 158 is still in range especially if you are more free ride oriented.
yea even if he doesn't get much taller, the chances of him gaining weight past 16 are pretty good. I've put on alot of weight without height since then, sure alot is fat, but probably half is adult muscle that I couldn't generate as a teenager, and it's heavier than fat.
Some people are just skinny their whole life, but he can get a shorter Proto later it will be perfect timing with a job and better skills to appreciate it....
Remember too the 158 SL is about the same size as a 154 Proto in terms of rail length/effective edge.
i weigh 170, and i think the 158 is a good size choice for that style of riding. i have a 158 SL, and i ride it all mountain. i have a shorter park board. the RC profile keeps it lively and makes it not seem as long when you're messing around... but at speed, all your effective edge is there for you.
but, that in mind, i also ride my 151 park board (with 7cm less effective edge too) all mountain... i think that snowboards are made so well these days that it doesn't really matter as much. which is cool, cause you can just have fun and not worry!
Alright sweet! I'll post pics of the board when it comes in... If I find out how to post pics. Haha
