Depends on how you carve. If you're skidding turns and the board kicks out on you on icey surfaces it grips better. I've found with me when I rail a carve hardcore it does 2 things it either grips so tight that it won't uninitiate from the carve or else when really kicking in the tail on a hard carve it buckles and washes out.
