i have only ever used cable/ladder pattern. . .but if you are in an AWD jeep i dont think you need chains. . . i take it the saturn is FWD isnt it

Doesn't matter how many wheels you have, ice is ice. Only proper winter/ice tires (or chains) will grip on ice.

I've seen many a 4x4 in ditches. More so than your average FWD car.
