Default Rome Board & Burton Bindings Question....

Is it true that if I have a Rome Slash Board and Burton Cartel Bindings I have to get the Rome bolts to attach the bindings to the board? a friend of mine was saying the Burton bolts may be too short/long and can damage the board/holes ....
