Wax question...Yes I read the sticky above

I read or heard of people rubbing wax on a cold board, then using the iron to heat it and melt it into the base. They repeat this two to three times and say it's less messy, doesn't waste as much wax, and less scraping needs to be done. I'm not concerned about wasting wax cause it isn't that expensive, but less messy and less scraping sounds nice. Does anyone here do this? I'm guessing not seeing I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the sticky thread above about wax.

I do it. your board isnt cold its room temperature. never wax a board straight out of the cold, take off the snow/ice and let it warm up.

You then apply your wax to your iron briefly. just a touch and then rub your board youll get a small amount. you will touch the wax brick to your iron every time you rub it to your board, this saves wax becase you apply a lighter coat. since I dont currently have a board I cant create a video to demonstrate but it does save wax

RidePowder, Thanks. I think I'll give that a try. I wax my board in our wood room where it is about 80 degrees, so it won't be a cold board.

I've used this method before but A) it's kind of a pain in the ass (you need to rub the entire base thoroughly as the wax won't spread as well as a trad hotwax....several times too), and B) when you're heating your base with an iron you are opening up the "pores" of the p-tex allowing it to suck up the wax. Traditional hotwax method allows for maximum absorption.

I prefer it, I apply two coats of hot wax, a cold temp and a soft wax of some sort. be it graphite, warm, or other. then I have it fairly covered I iron it into a nice even film and it spreads just as well as dripping and I dont scrape half a bar away
