Ok. I keep coming back to this post. TT,.. I hope you will forgive my ignorance on this one, but after reading Tatanka's post concerning the feeding frenzy surrounding it. I have to ask a stoopid newb question,...
What, is so special about this deck? I know you collect boards and make a point of finding rare or hard to find boards for others. I presume this one is rare, But that board is one of the uglier graphics I've ever seen. What is it that made this such a "must have?"
Haha, it's all good chomps.
This short lived little company was in cahoots with Mervin Manufacturing, specifically GNU.
There's not much special really about it
Other than not many of them being made & even less that are still around.
I don't know why everybody went mental, prolly only a handful of people want it.
The reason I
wanted one is, that's the first brand new board I ever bought, exactly 20 years ago.
I'd had 2 before this one, but they were fuckin' tanks.
A LOOK X-Rated, that was sooo Swiss cheesed from all the "drill your own hole" holes people had inflicted to it.
One time at Mt. Baker, I hit a jump & when I landed both of my bindings popped off.
Still on my feet, leash attached & all.
The edges from the contact points all the way around the nose were all 1cm individual pieces. Every single one fell out.
My second board, haha, not much better. It was indestructible I'm sure it's kickin' out there somewhere???
It also weighed more than me, I think?
A Kemper Freestyle 165.
Had that for maybe 3 or 4 years?
By the time I was done with it, it had been T-nutted so I could widen the stance.
The nose & tail were chopped off, so it looked like one of the new fandangled ski boards.
You know, the kind with the neat row of inserts at either end
Then I butchered the high backs & added some canting to my new super, way too wide stance
Then I found this Beautiful
Shin Campos with bindings for $100
Light as a fuckin' feather, super flexible & for only a 148, it absolutely slayed the powder.
This was the game changer for me, snowboarding was awesome before.
Now it was mind blowing.
Sadly, it started to fall apart. The sidewalls were brittle for some reason.
It started to crack & slowly little pieces started falling out.
I took it back to where I bought it, they spent $60 bucks out their own pocket & took it too the best place around to get it it fixed.
Everywhere that they fixed, held up great. It just continued to crumble everywhere else though.
My options were, swap it out for a different one or keep it.
I ended up swapping it for a SMELLY TUNA 140cm, cause it was all they had.
Too fuckin' small for me, I had to sell it.
I still remember how much I got for it too. I was hoping to get $200 for it, one of my buddy's dads came back from somewhere & gave me $240.
So.... Other than it being the best fuckin' graphic of all time, if you're a greasy little, money hungry, lick-her-pig. (Which we all know, you're striving to be @ that age.)
Not that much.
That is the only board I've been looking for. Up until last year, I'd never seen another one, anywhere.
Not in person, not a picture, not even in my head. My description when telling people, was way off.
Mines coming along, it's got 3 layers of paint on it. Luckily.
I found it in a real life junk yard, sittin' in the elements.
The rest of the boards it was with were so sun damaged, one boards top sheet had gone completely white, a different boards whole base had shrunk & peeled off.
Under those 3 coats of paint, mines vibrant
We just have some unfinished bidness to take care of.
