Also, to think you're not going to get hurt is naive. You WILL get hurt eventually. That's like those guys that ride dirtbikes or streetbikes and claim they'll never have to lay down their bike or won't crash it. |

Man everybody needs to actually help the guy instead of scareing him or something. if his heart is set in buying not renting, let him. its his money. and whats up with everybody saying 'get ready for pain'. like wtf? thats pretty much dicourageing. that part is preety much obvious with any 'extreme sport'.
as far as starting out. every case is diff. i never hurt myself from general riding even when starting out. (terrain park is diff story. haha) as for boots. yes get a special kind 'snowboard boots'. go to a shop. try every boot u like on to see whats most comfortable. one your that far pick a binding. you can find great deals. For example the "rome arsenal" bindings for less than 100 dollars. Last thing is your board. No need to go highend. Just get a cheap/semi cheap beater board to learn on your first year. Um. Back in the day when i had no experience, i had almost no pain. i had the occasional fall but nothing serious.
Im from the midwest so yes i learned on ice and still ride on ice. To point out pain to someone new and saying stuff like 'get ready for pain' is very ignorant. (is that the word?)to think that people are goin to be learning at the same pace as you or have the same crashes as you. no one's experience starting out is the same. Also, when you get into an extreme sport, expect pain, expect some bruises. It is naive to expect not to get hurt. I'm not telling the OP to be afraid of snowboarding, I'm telling him what to expect. After you get the basics down and understand what exactly you can do, it becomes insanely addicting. |
